I was thinking about this the other day, and it’s not like I’m super original because Joe Posnanski happened upon this first. But have you noticed that the Cubs are collecting lots of bats? Not just any bats, but legitimate high-ceiling put-a-hurt-on-the-baseball bats.

And it’s actually rather appropriate that the Cubs dealt with Billy Beane and the A’s. Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer seem to have identified their own “Moneyball” market inefficiency (premium bats) and have now stockpiled almost literally all the prospects. Teams are going to have to come knocking on the Cubs’ door to get those bats that are now in even shorter supply since, again, the Cubs have all of them.
It’s a pretty diabolical plan.
