Everyone knows the story behind the parody Jed Hoyer Twitter account, which only has the one tweet:
spanking it
— Jed Hoyer (@JedHoyer_) April 14, 2009
That tweet, as you can see from the time stamp, is from the 2009 season, the last season the Boston Red Sox made the playoffs as a wild card before Theo Epstein left the organization to join and remake the Chicago Cubs. The REAL Jed Hoyer would leave that October to run the San Diego Padres for a few before he, too, joined Epstein in Chicago.
Naturally, Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, being the merry prankster that we now know him to be, took advantage of the fact that his boss can’t do anything about this parody account:
No offseason for Jed! RT @JedHoyer_: spanking it
— Jon Lester (@JLester34) January 9, 2016
Well played, Jon.
